Position Summary

The Designer III is a senior-level civil-based AutoCAD design role responsible for the development and drafting of aerial and underground outside plant (OSP) cable plans. This role requires a deep understanding of local municipal codes, traffic control standards, and advanced experience in telecom design. The Designer III will operate independently and play a critical role in maintaining fiber integrity, route planning, and project quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce accurate permit-ready drawings per city and county requirements.
• Perform utility research using GIS platforms, Google Earth, and field data.
• Independently review and correct redlines without supervision.
• Design and revise civil plans within public right-of-way and agency standards.
• Develop and interpret traffic control plans based on WATCH and MUTCD standards.
• Create and maintain cable maps using 3GIS or similar systems.
• Interpret survey data and analyze route feasibility for High-Level Designs.
• Ensure fiber integrity is maintained across telecom network designs.
• Identify and resolve design errors, code/data issues, and CAD template problems.
• Communicate process improvements to increase productivity and efficiency.
• Assist with quality control (QC) of project deliverables.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support deadlines and client needs.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• High School Diploma or equivalent (Associate or Technical Degree preferred).
• Minimum 2+ years of hands-on AutoCAD cable design experience.
• Expert-level proficiency with AutoCAD and telecom civil base mapping.
• Solid understanding of OSP telecom design and underground utility infrastructure.
• Familiarity with 3GIS and telecom network documentation.
• Experience working with city, county, and agency permits (UPRR, Caltrans, etc.).
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
• Self-accountable with a strong attention to detail and productivity focus.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word).

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged sitting at a workstation with regular computer use.
• Occasional lifting of items up to 15 pounds may be required
