Job Description

Position: Contracts Attorney – Oil & Gas (Transactional & Title Focus)

Location: Remote (Central or Mountain Time Zones Preferred)

A privately funded energy investment firm is looking for a Contracts Attorney to support its growing acquisitions team. This role involves high-volume document drafting, legal review, and coordination related to mineral and energy asset purchases. The ideal candidate is diligent, independent, and comfortable managing complex transactional work especially related to title and property interests. This is not a litigation or courtroom-facing role.

Role Summary:

This attorney will focus on preparing and negotiating acquisition-related legal documents, addressing title irregularities, and managing the resolution of ownership and transfer issues. You’ll work closely with internal land and legal teams, support deal closings, and help ensure that contractual and curative measures align with operational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft purchase agreements, deeds, and payment contracts for energy and mineral asset acquisitions
  • Review and revise third-party contracts and negotiate terms as needed
  • Address and resolve title defects, including ownership gaps, inheritance matters, or unclear records
  • Oversee curative processes with the support of a dedicated paralegal and outside legal resources
  • Draft and revise documents such as corrective deeds, affidavits, and related instruments
  • Track and manage deal timelines, curative status updates, and contract obligations
  • Issue formal communications regarding extensions, title objections, or adjustments
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures and legal standards

Required Skills & Attributes:

  • Exceptional attention to detail and consistency in document drafting
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to meet critical deadlines
  • Proactive, resourceful, and capable of managing work independently
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong communication skills, especially written

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 0–4 years of legal experience in contracts, real estate, or energy law
  • Background in mineral title, land transactions, probate, or curative work
  • Juris Doctorate preferred; active law license is a plus but not mandatory
  • Experience using workflow or legal project management tools (e.g., Quick Base or similar)

Benefits:

  • Comprehensive health benefits, including medical, dental, and vision
  • Paid time off, holidays, and sick leave
  • 401(k) with profit-sharing potential
  • Opportunity to join a collaborative, high-performance team with a strong, values-driven culture

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career attorney or legal professional looking to develop deep transactional experience in the mineral and energy space. If you’re a strong legal drafter who thrives in a structured, document-driven role, we’d love to hear from you.
