Job Summary
The Epidemiology Surveillance Specialist supports the implementation of public health surveillance systems and epidemiologic studies. This entry-level position assists with data collection, outbreak investigations, epidemiologic analysis, and the preparation of technical reports. Work is performed under general supervision with no supervisory responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with public health surveillance, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
Support outbreak investigations and epidemiological studies.
Prepare statistical summaries and detailed reports using epidemiologic software.
Review and abstract data from case files, including medical examiner or coroner reports.
Maintain data quality through performance metrics and quality improvement practices.
Collaborate with community partners, including medical examiners, coroners, and law enforcement.
Participate in field investigations and medical chart reviews.
Promote effective communication and teamwork within the department and with external stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Science, Social Science, or a related field.
Experience: One (1) year in public health surveillance, data collection, or medical chart abstraction.
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid Nevada driver’s license or ability to obtain within 90 days.
FEMA ICS Training (100, 200, 700) required within 6 months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Understanding of epidemiology, surveillance, and data analysis principles.
Proficiency in data abstraction, report writing, and using software tools (MS Word, Excel, Outlook).
Ability to work independently with attention to detail.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially with diverse populations.
Ability to manage time effectively and contribute to team goals.
Additional Requirements
Must maintain active licenses and certifications.
May be required to work non-traditional hours during public health emergencies.
Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 20 lbs., sit or stand for long periods, and travel as needed.
Work may involve exposure to biohazards and adverse environmental conditions.
