Information Technology (IT) Security Intern

The Information Technology (IT) Security Intern supports cybersecurity efforts by helping monitor systems, respond to threats, and maintain compliance with security policies. This role offers firsthand experience with tools and practices while building foundational skills in threat analysis, incident response, and risk management.

Essential Functions:

• Assist in monitoring security systems and responding to threats.
• Review security logs and reports for suspicious activity and escalate as needed.
• Conduct vulnerability assessments and report findings.
• Support incident investigations and document breaches.
• Update and maintain security policies and procedures.
• Help develop and deliver security awareness training.
• Research emerging threats and cybersecurity trends.
• Collaborate with IT staff to integrate security measures with various applications.
• Perform routine security audits and assist with control implementation.
• Install and operate security tools and encryption software.
• Provide reports on security exposures and compliance issues.
• Assist in remediating detected vulnerabilities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Training:

• Must be currently enrolled or recently graduated from an IT, Cybersecurity, or related program.
• Must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale or equivalent.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must possess an understanding of networking fundamentals.
• Familiarity with operating systems such as Linux or Windows is required.
• An awareness of cybersecurity principles such as confidentiality, integrity, etc. are crucial.
• Ability to identify and assess basic security issues.
• Attention to detail is critical.
• Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical teams is required.
• Willingness to collaborate and learn from others is necessary.
