Job Description

Accountability:

To meet or exceed production schedules, maintain machinery, control scrap, and look for opportunities to increase production or improve processes. Optimize scheduling for maximum performance and efficiency. Attain production schedules. Develop direct reports through mentoring and other required resources. Drive a Lean culture across areas of responsibility, including but not limited to 6S, MDI, and A3 problem solving.

Job Summary:

Supervises the activities of production personnel engaged in all facets of the assigned manufacturing function. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, performs a variety of tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in interviewing, selecting, and training employees.
  • Supervises the activities of production personnel engaged in all facets of the manufacturing function.
  • Observe workflow, control inventory of work in process or finished goods in manufacturing areas.
  • Review production schedules and manufacturing documentation.
  • Perform or assist with any departmental operations, as required, or directed to maintain workflow or respond to emergency conditions.
  • Plan and assign work based on production schedules, equipment capacity, staff capabilities, and similar criteria, and make required modifications due to attendance, availability of material, equipment failure, or changes in circumstances to maintain workflow.
  • Recommend alterations to capacity forecasts based on knowledge of products, procedures, processes, equipment, and personnel capabilities.
  • Train staff in all aspects of equipment operation, production requirements, material, and equipment technology. Review and explain work. Explain company policies and procedures.
  • Suggest resources to improve productivity, quality, and efficiency.
  • Approve hourly associates’ time cards on a daily/weekly basis.
  • Review and approve and/or deny time off requests submitted by direct reports.
  • Handling employee complaints and grievances
  • Discipline associates.
  • Evaluate direct reports' productivity and efficiency for the purpose to recommending promotions or other changes in status.
  • Drive accountability and excellence in everything.
  • Provide guidance to employees to improve productivity and performance.
  • Build-up competences within the department to allow for backup and position changes.

Education and/or experience

  • Associate degree with 5-7 years relevant experience in directly supervising manufacturing/production area/ department (s).
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Management/Science with 1-2 years minimum experience will be considered in lieu of 4-5 years of direct experience.

  • Excellent knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental management and quality standards.
  • Excellent knowledge of quality standards, preventative, and corrective actions.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Knowledge of process-related standards involving process capability and capacity improvement.
  • Proven ability to develop successful partnerships with internal and external team members.
  • Ability to think critically and theoretically.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift 50 pounds, stand continuously, and work a 10-hour shift or overtime as needed.
