Job Description - Occupational Health Nurse

Primary Function

Responsible for various patient care and occupational health and safety services provided in MedPro Group and at employer-site operations.

Reports to: 

MedPro Group Services Manager, Medical Director

Essential Job Functions:

1. Performs duties of registered nurse of MedPro Group


2. Provide clinical health care services to employees for both occupational and personal illnesses and injuries, following established clinical policies, procedures and protocols of MedPro Group, consistent with licensure.


3. Collaborate, document and communicate with appropriate provider, employer, employee, MedPro management and marketing personnel, and authorized third party representatives concerning the care, medical case management and disability case management of employee illnesses and injuries.


4. Promote and participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of programs concerning the health and safety of the employer work place and work force.


5. Participate and/or manage, to the fullest extent possible, programs and activities concerning employer compliance with OSHA and other regulations concerning work place health and safety.


6. Deliver all services in a manner which promotes MedPro Group and employer-site personnel as professionals dedicated to the cost-effective advancement of the common goals of labor and management - a healthy, safe and productive work force.


7. Collaborate with the occupational health services manager, MedPro Group and other service providers in performing and providing the services as determined by the on-site medical services agreement between the employer and MedPro Group.


8. Monitor and track injuries and illnesses and help develop and implement strategies to minimize future occurrences as well as the costs of such occurrences to both the employer and employee.


9. Provide testing and training services related to regulatory compliance including but not limited to CPR, first aid, blood borne pathogens, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, ergonomics and substance abuse.

Core Competencies:

1. Minimum education: Nursing degree or diploma.


2. Minimum experience: One to two years patient care with preferred experience in occupational health services field.


3. Required certification/licensure:

• Registered nurse licensed in state of operation.


• Industrial spirometric technician, as necessary.


• Industrial audiometric technician., as necessary.


• CPR and first aid instructor.


• Certified for qualitative respirator fit testing, as necessary.


• Certified breath alcohol technician, as necessary.


• Prefer certification as occupational health nurse.

4. Special knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.


• Ability to interact professionally with employer management, labor representatives, and other third party representatives in a variety of situation.


• Ability to monitor and analyze records and trends to develop an understanding of situations and develop and promote strategies for improvement.


• Requires judgment and action that impacts the coordination of office activities for patient care and client services.


• Must possess strong medical assessment and clinical care skills.


• Must possess working knowledge of occupational and safety issues.


• PC literacy skills.

5. Physical demands:

• Extensive or prolonged standing and walking.


• Occasional stooping, bending, reaching and crouching positions.


• Extensive sitting.


• Lifts or transfers of patients, infrequently.


• Use of hands, adequate vision and hearing.


• Lift file boxes.


• Automobile travel.

6. Working conditions:

• Regularly exposed to blood borne pathogens.


• Occasional exposure to infectious and contagious diseases.


• Client contracted/determined hours, occasional overtime.


• Medical office and manufacturing environments.


• Automobile travel.
