This Registered Nurse position focuses on providing oncology and medical-surgical care in a Level I trauma center, Magnet-designated acute care hospital. The RN will administer chemotherapy, manage intravenous therapies, and provide comprehensive patient care within a 24-bed unit, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team. Minimum one year of experience is required, with preference given to candidates with chemotherapy certification and experience in a teaching hospital setting.

Responsibilities:
- Administering chemotherapy treatments (various methods: IV push, continuous infusion, oral).
- Managing and handling body fluids post-chemotherapy.
- Managing and disposing of cytotoxic spills.
- Monitoring patients receiving chemotherapy and recognizing/communicating abnormal lab values.
- Performing various IV therapies and infusions (accessing ports, administering blood products, managing central lines, PICC lines).
- Providing comprehensive nursing care to oncology and medical-surgical patients.
- Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team (physical therapy, respiratory services, etc.).
- Patient assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning.
- Charting in Cerner.
- Floating to other units as needed.
- Working every other weekend.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Active Registered Nurse license in Illinois.
- Minimum one year of experience as a Registered Nurse.
- IV therapy and infusion skills (including port access, central line care, PICC line care).
- Chemotherapy administration skills.
- Ability to recognize and communicate abnormal lab values.
- BLS certification.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC).
- OCN certification.
- ONS/ONCC certification.
- Experience in a teaching hospital.
- Experience in a community hospital.
- LTAC experience.
- Trauma Level I experience.
- Prior charge nurse experience.
- Experience with Biotherapy (Active Immunotherapy, Interferons, Interleukins).
- Experience managing chemotherapy side effects (alteration in skin/mucous membranes, altered mental status, etc.).
- Hospice care experience.
- Patient/family education and support experience.
- Experience with Leukemia/Blood Dyscrasias and Lymphoma.
- Cerner charting experience.
Special Considerations:
- 4x12 or 3x12 night shifts (1845-0715).
- Every other weekend rotation.
- Will float within scope to meet facility needs.
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions allowed).
- COVID-19 vaccine not required.
- RTO restrictions: ideally no more than 5 days.
- Guaranteed hours: up to 36 hours of call-offs per 13-week assignment without penalty.
Scheduling:
- 4x12 or 3x12 night shifts (6 pm - 6 am).
- Every other weekend.
- Schedule requests can be discussed with the manager.
