Summary

Performs diagnostic medical ultrasound imaging exams to assist with the diagnosis of disease and study of the malfunction of organs. Participates in CQI activities.
\n\n
\n\t - Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations according to physician orders.
\n\t - Utilizes the appropriate equipment as required for the ordered exam.
\n\t - Provides instructions and prepares patients for ultrasound examinations.
\n\t - Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure; makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
\n\t - Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
\n\t - Enters exam data and accurate patient information into computer systems.
\n\t - Moves transducer, by hand, over specified area of the body and observes sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced.
\n\t - Performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed examination, and accurate documentation.
\n\t - Maintains professional interaction with physicians, co-workers, patient, and patients family.
\n\t - Performs all quality control checks, as prescribed.
\n\t - Maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc.
\n\t - Maintains records of ultrasound images taken, archiving, and de-archiving data as required; calculates, compiles and records data from numerical readings on patients medical record and related documents.
\n\t - Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturers instruction.
\n\t - Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing ultrasound examinations including the use of equipment to minimize safety hazards.
\n\t - Calibrates, cleans and performs routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning; cleans and sterilizes instruments, supplies and equipment; stocks and replenish supplies as needed
\n\t - Documentation meets current standards and hospital policy
\n\t - Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population.
\n\t - Performs all additional duties as assigned by the department manager.

Regulatory Requirements:
\n\n
\n\t - Successful completion of an approved program in ultrasound technology required.
\n\t - Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography is preferred.
\n\t - Must be registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
\n\t - One (1) year of ultrasound experience preferred.
\n\t - Certification in abdomen and OB/GYN required other certifications preffered.
\n\t - Current BLS certification.
\n\t - Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty (ies) as appropriate.
